Back in October of 2012, Staten Island was devastated from Superstorm Sandy. The eastern and south shore neighborhoods were pummeled from the driving wave action, damaging or destroying many Staten Island homes and businesses. The Living Breakwaters, an innovative coastal green infrastructure project, was engineered to increase the physical, ecological and social resilience of State Island, and ensure that future storms do not produce the devastation like Superstorm Sandy did to the region.
Partnering with Weeks Marine, Yerkes South – H2H JV team partner H2H Geoscience Engineering will ensure that the stone produced for this project meets all requirements for the project specifications. The stone is traveling from Carver Sand and Gravel in Johnstown, NY by barge down to Staten Island, New York. Additionally, the JV team will provide all Hydrographic and Topographic Surveys required, including pre-construction, transect, post-construction and verification surveys as construction of the breakwaters continues.
